The Team

We are a people business

We think that accounting and financial management isn't just about numbers, it's about people too. The relationships we build with our clients are central to everything we do, so it's only natural that as well as all the skills and professionalism you'd expect from a team with a reputation like ours, it's the right mix of personality and attitude that help make us who we are.

If you haven't met us already, take a minute to get to know a little more about us.

Ashley Barrowclough

As Balance's Principal, Ashley has worked closely with a huge range of owner-managed businesses and his remit now covers a little bit of everything from planning and management reporting through to financial decision making. Previously, Ashley spent 6 years working in South Africa with Pricewaterhouse Coopers where he rose to the rank of partner.

Ashley is a keen snowboarder and hits the slopes of Andorra as often as possible for his regular adrenalin fix. He is also a big fan of Huddersfield Giants and also spends many of his weekends watching his son who plays rugby league for Oldham and at international level for Serbia.

Sharon
Munt

With 12 years’ practice experience behind her, and 10 years here at Balance, Sharon’s particular expertise lies in her consultancy role specialising in systems analysis, reporting structures and ambitious business development. She’s also responsible for overall practice management and general team happiness in her parallel role as MD.

A dog lover and Glastonbury fan, Sharon’s also the artistic member of the team and spends her free time indulging her creativity with sketching, pottery and music. Oh, and a healthy dose of retail therapy.

Malcolm
Jacobs

Malcolm's clocked up 30 years' experience in general accounting practice and is now a Senior Manager at Balance. His particular expertise includes audit, accounts and taxation, and as part of our team he specialises in the technical aspects of limited company statutory accounting requirements.

Away from the office, Malcolm's a keen fan of football and rugby as well as an accomplished musician whose instruments of choice include the piano and organ. He is also a member of the Hade Edge Community Choir.

Richard
Simpson

As a Senior Client Manager at Balance, Richard has worked with a huge range of SMEs over the years. He now specialises in corporate and personal taxation, cash flow forecasting, implementing IT accounting systems and accounting systems training.

A self-confessed gadget geek and an iphone fanatic, away from the office Richard enjoys music, a spot of cooking and getting to grips with his latest sporting challenge, golf.
